Shivam Amin, M.D. is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of patients with retinal diseases. A native of Gadsden, Alabama, he is excited to return to his home state to provide specialized retinal care to the people of Montgomery and Central Alabama.
Dr. Amin earned his undergraduate degree from the University of South Alabama in 2014, where he double majored in Biology and Philosophy, graduating summa cum laude. He went on to obtain his medical degree from the University of South Alabama in 2019 before completing his Ophthalmology residency at the prestigious University of Chicago in 2023. He then pursued a two-year fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin, historically recognized as one of the premier institutions for vitreoretinal surgical training.
His training included exposure to pediatric retina, ocular oncology, inherited retinal diseases, and uveitis. Dr. Amin has also conducted research on the role of metformin in retinal diseases, the influence of the gut microbiome on ocular health, and ocular trauma resulting from paintball-related injuries. He brings a strong academic background and extensive surgical expertise to his practice.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Amin enjoys playing and watching tennis and basketball, weight lifting, reading, and listening to podcasts. He is happily married and looks forward to serving the Montgomery and Central Alabama community with compassionate and cutting-edge care for patients with retinal diseases.
